Australian friend and supporter Mark Edwards shares about his recent experiences in China.
‘I will never forget the day that my friend Rex Hills phoned me and asked me to come to China with him. “Not sure about that!” was my immediate reaction, as people have been attempting to get me to China for ages. Yet somehow I knew this was the right time, so my journey of heart change began. Little did I know just how much this trip would change me.
Words cannot describe what impact my visits to the ICC projects in Changsha and Hengyang had upon me. Two months later I am not the same man that left for China. I saw the most wonderful group of people giving their time, talents, resources and hearts to those that society regards as the least. Children, abandoned and disabled, were being treated with such love, dignity, compassion and empathy that I knew my heart must now change to reflect what I had seen and experienced.
My sitting on the sidelines of apathy was over – now every day my heart draws back to China and while that is good I also realized that there are the least in my own backyard. Indifference is now a thing of the past and I have China to thank for this change.’
