Dreams Can Come True

Our founder David Gotts shares his thoughts:

‘Don’t you love it when dreams come true? The last couple of months have been such a blessing to me – particularly as I feel that God is making our dreams come true.

About a year ago I was just back from a trip to China – it was 5.00 a.m. and I couldn’t sleep due to jetlag. The previous day I’d been standing on the Great Wall of China. As I reflected on this incredible feat of engineering the words “One day to walk the wall” dropped into my mind. Little did I know that this idea would grow into International China Concern’s first international fund raising event “Walk the Wall”.

On September 29, 2007 we “Walked the Wall”– not the actual Great Wall of China – instead individuals and groups all around the world joined together and walked. When combined the number of kilometres walked was further than the length of the Great Wall of China. In total 6545 kilometres!

Through this event we’ve raised over USD 203,000 and money is still coming in. This enables us to continue bringing Love, Hope and Opportunity to China’s abandoned and disabled through a number of initiatives such as our new children’s centre – a long held dream. Based in Changsha, this centre will be a home to 40 children, a therapy centre, a vocational training centre, and headquarters of our Community Outreach Programme (another new initiative that will support families with disabled children so they don’t need to abandon them due to lack of support).

The Community Outreach Programme is also another dream come true. For years I’ve had it in my heart to work with families so that they can get support that will keep them from the desperate act of abandoning their child. Just last week International China Concern received formal notification that this programme will be fully funded by the Bridgeway Foundation of Canada. Amazing! Other recent blessings such as a large gift from a Canadian donor of USD 115,000 means that dreams that seemed out of reach even a few weeks ago can now become reality.

And as I consider you, our supporters, and how you stand with us to meet the daily care costs of the children in the International China Concern family, I am so encouraged that you are part of making the children’s dreams come true – dreams of love, hope and opportunity for every disabled child!’
