Nicola Hedley, our Sponsorship manager, shares her thoughts as she prepares to travel to China later this month:
‘It’s been my joy to be part of the International China Concern family for over 6 years and I’m really looking forward to being back with the children. I can’t wait to see all the changes that have taken place since I was last in china.
Hengyang will be a different place to the one I left in 2005, when the boys and girls were still crammed together in a few tiny rooms. Now the girls have bright new homes and the boys have lots of space. There’ve been changes in Changsha too – I’ve seen photos of the new therapy room, but there’s nothing like being there and watching our therapists at work.
The best thing about my trip will be to see how the children have blossomed and grown and to walk the wall with them on September 29. I am so excited to be able to share the joy of that day with them. We will definitely make an impact as there’ll be over 200 of us walking along the river in Changsha.
All the children have their own stories and it’s hard to single one out. To me they’re all special. I may not be with them day to day, but there’s a heart connection between us. When people ask me if I have children, I often reply – 220! I love connecting with our sponsor parents too. It’s like being part of a big family.
I’d like to encourage more people to join the family by sponsoring with International China Concern. It’s a really worthwhile thing to do and you’ll be making a huge difference. Together we can help China’s abandoned and disabled to live life to the full.’
If you’d like to sponsor with International China Concern, ‘contact us’ and we’ll get the ball rolling.
