International Volunteers

Kyla Alexander

Kyla joined International China Concern in January 2001. Following language study she took on key roles in our Changsha project and lived there until February 2006, when she moved to Hengyang. Kyla was instrumental in developing the Hengyang Project and is now the Project Manager.

Kyla is from Queensland, Australia and holds a Bachelor of Nursing. She enjoys reading, going for long walks with friends and cheese cake.

Anemaat Family

Originally from Queensland, Australia, the Anemaats moved to China in January 2001. Following language study, Justin became manager of the Logistics Department. He also works with those in the Moving On Group Homes and spends every Friday night with them. He is very much a father figure to these children and young adults.

Justin and Lisa act as Team Life Coordinators. This pastoral role sees the couple look after the day to day wellbeing of our volunteers in Changsha.

The first of their three children was born in China. Tyson (born December 2002), Brianna (born September 2004) and Joshua (born August 2006) make sure that life is always lots of fun.

Kirsten Britcher

Kirsten is from South Australia and moved to China in 2001 after ten years in graphic design and print production. Following a year’s language study she was seconded to our International Administration Office in Hong Kong to oversee management and to transition the office to the UK. Kirsten then stepped into the role of Acting China Operations Director and during that time, was made an Honorary Professor of the Hunan Social Welfare Centre. In May 2006 Kirsten moved to ICC’s International Administration Office in the UK to manage Communication Services.

Kirsten enjoys art, photography, cooking and walking in the beautiful Northumbrian countryside.

Ron & Sue Burns

Ron and Sue relocated from Queensland, Australia to China in February 2007 to take on the Team Life Co-ordinator role for our international volunteers based at Hengyang.

After first hearing about ICC through their Church they undertook a China Team in 2003, spending time in Changsha. Their heart for China continued to grow and in 2006 they applied for the role in Hengyang.

Combining language studies along with their role and time in the project they have quickly become foreign grandparents to many of the children. Sue spends time loving the babies and Ron enjoys co-ordinating some of the older boys into repairs and maintenance within the centre.

Hannah Chih

Hannah moved from her home in Taiwan to China in October 1998. She was based in Changsha for 7 years where she assisted in the sheltered workshop, Hand in Hand sponsorship and had input with some of the young adults. In February 2006 Hannah moved to Hengyang where she organises craft activities and is helping to set up the education department. Hannah likes to relax by listening to music, reading, cross-stitch and walking in the countryside. Support Hannah and make a one off donation or monthly pledge. Lucy Chua

Lucy joined us in Changsha in June 2000. Her experiences as a teacher in her native Singapore were invaluable and she initially served as manager of our Education department. Since then Lucy has established a kindergarten for young children with special needs and has negotiated and arranged for many of the children to enter the local school system or attend specialised vocational training. As well as providing support to management, Lucy still spends time teaching and has fostered one of the children.

Lucy has many friends in Changsha and is a valuable link with the local Chinese community.

David Gotts

David is from the UK. He set up International China Concern in 1993 to meet the needs of China’s abandoned and disabled. He was based in Changsha until December 2001, when he moved to Vancouver, Canada. He is ICC’s Executive Director and oversees the running of our work in China and our international network of offices.

David is married to Linda and their son Jamie was born in December 2006. He enjoys being a husband and Dad and is a member of a book club.

Sam Hills

Sam’s first contact with ICC was when she participated in a China Team in 2001. She then returned to work in our Therapy Department for three months in 2003, before joining ICC full time in March 2005. Sam has a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy and is from Queensland, Australia. In addition to working as an Occupational Therapist in the Changsha project she is also studying Chinese. In her spare time, Sam enjoys spending time with the children, reading and spending time on the computer. Alison Kennedy

Alison moved to China in October 2005, after a six month stay in Changsha in 2004. She is currently studying Mandarin part time while helping to set up the Hengyang Project. Long term she will be involved in developing a therapy department and in training local Chinese employees.

Originally from the UK, Alison enjoys cooking and walking. She is a gifted song writer, plays guitar and enjoys poetry. Support Alison and make a one off donation or monthly pledge. Leisel Luscombe

After participating in two China teams Leisel moved to China in July 2006. She is from South Australia, where she worked as a caregiver for elderly people. Leisel is currently focussing on language study and works with the older boys at Hengyang, helping them learn new skills and express themselves through art and craft activities. Leisel helps with other aspects of the project as she is needed.

Leisel enjoys walking in the countryside, cooking and arts and crafts.

Karen Norman

Karen joined us full time in January 2002. Initially she was based in Changsha where she completed language study and worked in the Training Department. In February 2006 Karen moved to Hengyang and now manages staff training and looks after the medical needs of the children.

Karen is from South Australia and has a Bachelor of Nursing. She is experienced in paediatrics.

To relax Karen enjoys reading, listening to music, riding her bike, and watching films. Karen is a gifted musician and plays the flute.

Bruce & Anne Regier

Bruce and Ann joined our team in June 2007 and are based in Changsha. Canadian Bruce is a social worker with experience in foster care and adoption. He will be acting as a consultant on issues related to foster care and behaviour management.

Anne has dual Canadian/American citizenship and is a teacher. She is supporting Bruce in his role, as well as home schooling the couple’s five children, Corey, Maxwell, Grace, Jack and David.

Lis Strahan

Lis initially moved from New South Wales to China in 2003, working with us for nine months. She returned full time in August 2004. Currently she is concentrating on language study. Lis works in our Therapy Department where she is involved in the Sensory Development programme. Lis also trains local Chinese therapists in sensory therapy.

Lis has a BSc in Occupational Therapy. To relax she enjoys reading, cooking, listening to music and hanging out with friends.

Clare Sturdy

Clare’s first contact with ICC was when she participated in a China team in 2006. She joined ICC full time in 2007 and is based in Changsha, where she is attending language school and working with a variety of children. Clare is from the UK and has a BA (Hons) in English with Business Management and is certified in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

When she is not working Clare enjoys outdoor activities, travelling, reading and music.

Hang Khee and Victoria Tan

Hang Khee and Victoria moved from Singapore to Changsha in March 2007. Hang Khee has a BSc in Mathematics from the University of New South Wales and served with the Singapore Armed Forces for twenty-eight years. He took early retirement to work as a chaplain with the Military Christian Fellowship, and in March 2007 was appointed as International China Concern’s Director of China Operations. Hang Khee speaks fluent Mandarin and is a gifted leader. Victoria is studying Mandarin and is spending time getting to know the children and young people as she supports Hang Khee in his role. The couple have 3 children.
