May 17 was a very special day for International China Concern as we held a dedication and naming ceremony for our new building, The Lighthouse. Your support enabled us to purchase and renovate the building and we are sincerely grateful.
We chose to call the building ‘The Lighthouse’ because this speaks of strength, hope, light and new beginnings. Supervisory Board chairman Richard Harris shares:
‘A lighthouse guides ships to safety in bad weather. Lighthouses are strong and well built. This building is a light to community, a beacon, a sign of hope and safety; it signifies life.’
The Lighthouse will provide a home for life for 37 disabled children and young adults in Changsha. More than that, through our Community Outreach Programme it will be a resource and a beacon of hope for families with special needs children.
Much of the funding for The Lighthouse was raised through our annual fundraiser, Walk the Wall. If you would like to raise money for China’s abandoned and disabled, sign up for Walk the Wall 2008. More information can be found at www.walkthewall.org.
